Start with the reader of the other website
A backlink is useful when the destination genuinely helps the linking page’s audience. Evaluate subject relevance, editorial quality and the context of a potential citation. A single third-party authority score is not a substitute for reading the publication and understanding its audience.
Build a reference-worthy resource
Original research, a well-explained process or a carefully maintained comparison can give writers a reason to link. Use information you can substantiate, describe your methods and make the resource easy to understand. Useful assets require maintenance; a broken or outdated reference loses its value.
Keep outreach specific
Identify the editor or writer whose work fits the resource. Explain why it contributes to a particular topic, rather than sending a generic demand for a link. Publishers decide whether to cite it. Avoid automated spam, private blog networks and paid arrangements intended to manipulate search rankings.
Report more than a link count
Record the referring page, relevance, placement and referral traffic where available. Separate earned coverage from sponsored placements and qualify sponsored links appropriately. Google’s spam policies address manipulative link practices; a credible strategy should prioritize reputation and useful referrals.
